Atmos Energy Donates $5000 to the Little Free Library Project

We are pleased to announce that Atmos has generously donated $5000 towards the purchase of books and materials for the Little Free Library project throughout Madison County!

A little free library is a neighborhood book exchange where everyone is invited to take a book or share a book. When children grow up in book-rich environments, literacy rates can skyrocket. Access to books is cited as the number-one predictor of a child’s ability to thrive in school. But for many kids, books are hard to come by. Two out of three children living in poverty have no books of their own.

Everyone deserves a book to read. Little Free Library’s Impact Library Program places neighborhood booksharing boxes in areas where books are scarce. Thanks to the generous donation by Atmos we can bring little libraries full of books where they’re needed most. So far, 4 new little libraries are located at: Kearney Park Community Center in Flora, New Truelight Church on John Day Road in Canton, the North Place neighborhood in Madison at the corner of North Place Drive and Azalea Circle, and Thornton Chapel United Methodist Church in Canton. Watch for more libraries popping up throughout the county.

We want to say a special thank you to Sheila Jones, our District 1 Supervisor for her efforts in making this possible as well as Chip Estes, David Westbrook and Jerry Robertson for building and donating these libraries for our community. For more information or to get involved email us at feedback@mcls.ms or call (601) 859-7733.
