COVID19 Update

#MSLibrariesStrong Doors Closed. Libraries Open.

Dear Library Patrons:

As we prepare to safely restore services at our libraries, we are happy to announce:

BOOK RETURNS OPEN MAY 26th AT NOON

Please return ALL materials through the book return at any of our libraries at your convenience — Fines and overdues remain suspended so there is no rush.

Additional services coming soon! Check back for details.

Thank you for you continued patience and support during this difficult time.

#MSLibrariesStrong Doors Closed. Libraries Open.

Dear Library Patrons:

While MCLS staff is working diligently to provide as many alternative and digital library services as possible, we know it is no replacement for the library itself. But while we are anxious to return to our libraries, we also know the greatest service we can provide at this time is to help protect the health and well-being of our communities.

Working under guidance from the Governor's office, including the Governor's current executive order in effect until Monday, May 25, the Mississippi Department of Health and the Mississippi Library Commission, our libraries remain closed at this time. We have, however, begun working on plans for when our libraries are able to safely re-open and resuming services at the libraries.

Again, the health and safety of our communities is our top priority.

We look forward to welcoming you back to the libraries and serving you soon. Thank you for your continued support and patience.

Stay safe and well.

Tonja Johnson, Director
Madison County Library System

Dear Library Patrons:

In accordance with direction from the CDC and the Mississippi Department of Health, the Madison County Library System remains closed to the public and will continue to offer alternative library services to help mitigate the spread of the COVID-19 virus until further notice. The decision as to when to re-open to the public will be made as the situation develops and information becomes available. At present, the library will remain closed to the public at least through the month of April.

As previously noted, MCLS welcomes thousands of people every day, and we take the health and well-being of our communities very seriously. While we know this may be an inconvenience, we are committed to providing as many library services as possible without opening our doors to the public.

REMEMBER

• Please DO NOT use our outside book drops. We are asking everyone to keep materials until the library re-opens. NO OVERDUE FINES will be charged during this time and ALL MATERIALS will be automatically renewed during this time.
• We encourage you to explore our digital services. We have many new titles available through Overdrive, Hoopla, and RBdigital as well as several new online services. If you are not already familiar with our digital services, please contact us via email (feedback@mcls.ms), the website or Facebook and we will be happy to assist you.
• Staff will be working during the library’s regular hours to answer reference questions, give technical support and assist as much as possible via email (feedback@mcls.ms), through our website and Facebook messages.
• Free WiFi remains available in our parking lots.

• MCLS staff will continue working hard to provide online programming and links to useful resources for information, education and entertainment.

A WORD ABOUT CURBSIDE PICK UP

While we initially anticipated being able to offer this service, after much thought and consideration and out of concern for the safety of our staff and patrons, the decision was made not to do so at this time. Below is a link to an article that perfectly expresses our concerns and stance on offering this service right now.

WHY CURBSIDE PICK UP AT YOUR LIBRARY ISN'T SAFE

We will continue to update this website and MCLS Facebook page as information develops.

Again, we apologize for any inconvenience, but our top priority is to protect the health and well-being of our staff and the communities we serve at this time.

Thank you for your understanding.

Tonja Johnson, Director
Madison County Library System
