MCLS Celebrates El Día De Los Niños With The Butterfly Project!

Día de Los Niños (Children's Day/Book Day), commonly known as Día, is a national library program that fosters literacy for all children from all backgrounds. It is a commitment to include and celebrate a variety of cultures every day, year-round, culminating annually on April 30. This year MCLS celebrates Día with The Butterfly Project to bring you this celebration of cultures!!

The Butterfly Project is a call to action through education, the arts, and memorial making. Participants paint ceramic butterflies that are permanently displayed as symbols of resilience and hope, to create 1.5 million butterflies around the world—one for each child who perished in the Holocaust. The butterfly symbol is laden with meanings including remembrance, transformation, hope, joy, and liberation. The project honors survivors and becomes an important part of Holocaust and anti-bullying education.

Kids ages 3-18 are invited to participate with The Butterfly Project kit!

Every family has a story, and that story deserves to be celebrated. Each kit will contain a blank journal for your child to write or draw the story of your family, a ceramic butterfly for them to paint (and return), and instructions and information about the project.

Fill out the registration form by January 14th to secure your kit! The celebration will be held online Thursday, January 21, 2021.
