MCLS Services Part-Time Housekeeper - Madison Branch

Job Description:
Position Summary: The part-time housekeeping position reports to the Assistant Director and Director. This position performs a variety of janitorial and cleaning services to maintain their library building.
Requirements:
Education/Experience/Skills: High School diploma or equivalency and some experience in janitorial or cleaning services. Knowledge of the operation and maintenance of janitorial cleaning equipment a plus. Knowledge of safe work principles and practices. Skill in assessing and prioritizing multiple tasks and working within deadlines, identifying and recommending solutions to problems. Establishes and maintains effective working relationships with co-workers, and MCLS staff.

Job Factors:
Amount of Supervision Received: After initial training, employee will be expected to work independently and will be evaluated on a regular basis. They will immediately report to the Branch Manager at their specific branch.

Internal and External Contacts: This position interacts with other members of the library staff on a routine basis, and more extensively when dealing with specific projects.

Physical Requirements: The physical demands described here are representative of those that must be met by an employee to successfully perform the essential functions of this job. While performing normal duties of this job, employees may be required to sit or stand for longer periods of time and/or move from one area of the library to another. The employee may be required to climb ladders or step stools, stoop, bend, kneel, reach, push or pull loaded book carts, lift and carry stacks of books, or move boxes of materials of considerable weight from one location to another. The employee may be required to lift up to 40 pounds. The employee should have sufficient vision and hand/eye coordination to perform repetitive movements and job duties. Tasks require visual perception and discrimination as well as oral communications ability. Reasonable accommodations may be made to enable individuals with disabilities to perform the essential functions.
Responsibilities:
Duties and responsibilities include the following but are not limited to:
• Conducts major cleaning of assigned facilities; cleans and maintains buildings and furnishings.
• Performs a variety of janitorial tasks daily; cleans and disinfects restrooms, mirrors and restocks restrooms.
• Gathers and empties trash from inside and outside waste receptacles, offices and general areas.
• Performs floor maintenance; sweeps and mops floors; removes dirt and debris; spot cleaning carpets; buffs tile floors as needed.
• Cleans and dusts furniture, air vents, doorframes, doors, walls, window blinds, mirrors and baseboards.
• Window cleaning.
• Assists with special events as needed.
• Organizes janitorial supplies; coordinates and completes special cleaning details.
• Reports supply needs to Branch Manager for ordering.
• Minor repairs as assigned.
• Duties are expected to be fulfilled with limited supervision and in a timely manner.

Hours: This is a part-time position, approximately 16 hours per week (79 hours maximum per month) and is a non-exempt position. Work hours can vary, but will be scheduled in the morning, Monday – Friday, normally.

Salary: Depends on experience.
